    Question Underwood M1

I'm a new member and would like to begin by asking a question concerning my "new Underwood M1icon"
I recently purchased what appeared to be a "correct" Underwood type 2 rifle. I took it to my local gunsmith who is a M1 specialist and he took it completely apart. Indeed all parts were matching and correct to the serial number and date. One part however has him puzzled as well as I am. The trigger housing has the number 7 stamped in it instead of the .U. Does anyone out there know what this is, where it came from or anything about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, maldenpa

    Welcome to the Forum.

Does your trigger housing look anything like this?

Early M1 Carbine USGI NPM Type 1 Trigger Housing RARE | eBay

AFAIK National Postal Meter is the only manufacturer that stamped a NUMBER on the rear side of the trigger housing, and usually had an N stamped on the same side or opposite side depending on the revision number. A picture would help for more accurate ID.

First and always, pictures would help a ton. Where is the 7 stamped on the trigger housing? If it's on the bottom of the housing on the outside then there's a good chance it could be Winchester. BTW, for the most part, all Underwood carbines were type one carbines meaning they had flip sights and type one barrel bands. I feel uncomfortable using those terems there, but for the most part it's true. Again, pictures would be really great here.
