    Smile Gew98 mud cover

    Picked up this mud cover a little while ago from a garage sale, anyone now what they are worth and any information about them and is this the real deal i heard there are repros out there

    Note that 99% of those turning up, are fakes. They were once made, of an extremely high quality and even marked with an original manufacturers marking. I have an original one myself, but only knows on it for being original, since it was found in a chest on the bottom of a lake.

    How can you tell if it is original or not is there certain things to look for??

    Just ask yourself if a thin metal cover which is probably 100 years old can be in such a good finish .. or make a metallurgical examination

    To be more serious: I believe the original finish was rather glossy, highly polished. The manufacturers marking should be rather deep.
