Thread: Info on an Enfield Mark VI ??

Hello, I got my hands on a 1924 Enfield Mark VI 455 the cylinder has been shaved, it has broad arrow markings on the top, hammer and trigger...... the serial number (12110) all match ...... I have found a couple like it.... but they also have Webley on the gun ...... mine does not......does this add or detract from the value ??? Thanks in advance for any info and help..... Cory

I could provide an assessment based on the Canadian market, however the US market would surely be different, personally I have not seen a discernible difference in prices based on manufacture in my own region.
As an aside what you have there is a Webley Mark VI (6) that was license built at RSAF Enfield between 1923-1926 if I remember my dates right. As you may have guessed it would have originally been chambered in .455. As a caution, avoid firing modern production .45 ACP ammunition through this revolver, some have done so, but is a stress on the design, most shooting enthusiasts use a custom handload that runs at reduced pressure with moon clips.

Thanks Sentryduty, I have been able to find out that info ...... in my research it looks like the Webley stamp came a couple years after the original Enfield ?? I want to sell this one so I'm trying to figure out a fair price .......There are a couple on Armlist and gun broker seems like $500 and up ...... this one does have some pitting on and in the barrel ....... I still need to clean it up a little(I wasn't sure before I did some research) to leave it alone or not ??? anyway does $500 sound reasonable from your experience??

You've got it just a little bit wrong way round, the Webley stamp is the original production starting around 1915 and the Enfield stamp was the later production in that 1923-26 range. I have observed values in Canada to range from $400-700 CDN, so if you are seeing gunbroker prices at the $500 USD point that might not be too far off what is threshold for your market.
Doing clean up, it is important not to disturb the finish, but rust removal will always benefit a firearm. Do a bit of research first but you will generally find that fine steel wool and a proper gun oil is the best route for all but the worst condition guns. Avoid using mechanical means like dremel tools, abrasives like emery cloth or sandpaper, and acids like Naval Jelly.

According to Wiki(yeah, I know) the pistol manufactured at RSAF Enfield between 1921-1926 was designated Pistol, Revolver, Webley, No.1 MkVI.
