There are numerous indications to me that it has been not so carefully restored. I hope I'm wrong and just don't know any better but there it is.

I'll be very interested to hear what everyone thinks about this one. I have two original carbines and the stocks are brown, not red. That seemed odd to me on the auction gun.

What am I missing here, $20,000 with very few pictures. The Carbine Collectors Club article is for a different serial number.

I never said it was the same carbine. I posted that to show the red stock which was questioned

I think RMC's stock started more red but when oiled or linseeded faded to more brown--I think color is direct indication of how long its been exposed to light and other oils-whether linseed or motor oil-I had a squirrel rifle that had a shiny finsih that I stripped off to get the light reflections gone from it-it went from light to dark in about 10 yrs with no finish other then whatever I oiled gun with

got to thinking--someplace I have a two tone stock that is red on one side and brown on other--I think it hung on a wall for years--the light brown side is right side where the operating slide would stick out--just my two cents
