Aust. Chest No. 1 Mk 2

Purchased these monsters over the winter and finally got caught up around the house to make the internals; an unusual chest here in the USAicon. Many thanks to whom ever posted the pic's of the internals with a ruler as I was able to make/fudge two sets out as I only had the original bottom pieces for one chest (thanks for the extra scrap wood Mike!). Not museum quality but was not trying either. One chest was upgraded to a No. 3 Mk 2, but without the internals I have no clue what it was modified for, anyone?? After completion had to fill them, to check the fit.......

Lovely display. Exactly how many rifles does each chest hold? I see four per layer, but how many layers?

Looks like two layers of holes in the partitions.

Does any-one know what the largest weapons transit chest is that was made during WW2 for the Britishicon Commonwealth? The largest which I have seen is for the 20mm aircraft cannon and I could have purchased it for a very good price; I wish that I had now.

20 pounder tank barrels came from Ordnance in a wooden returnable transit chest, Does that count? Mind you that really says it all about Ordnance logic. I mean......, what on earth would damage that in transit?

peter knows exactly why, but for others it was to make it easier to stack/store and to stop it damaging other stuff in transit.

i work in a warehouse atm and you would be stunned by some of the stuff we see. it is amazing what people can do when they are grumpy, tired or just dont give a ####. even when you are trying to do a job properly it just takes a fraction of a second for things to go pearshaped.
