“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928
Much changes, much remains the same.
Yes I would agree, a Colt Lightning carbine for sure!
Yes it is!

Thanks for the posts on the Boer conflict. I just added a Boer contract ChileanMauser to the family and doing some research to fill in the gaps in my knowlage of the period.
Not being an expert on Baden-Powell, I would guess this looks more like a trooper in Rhodesia from the weapons, horse and equipment.
Looks pretty close to me, but hard to be sure.
Regards, Jim
No rank insignia, sleeves rolled up, no Sam Browne or similar straps, no sword worn or fastened to the saddle, bridle/saddle/etc. Wrist watch?
The photo in post #6 is in Chief Scout dress as head of the movement.

Daan, those are all good points, and I too doubt the first (horseback) photo is actually Baden-Powell. I also doubt it was taken during the Boer War and wonder if it wasn't taken in North America (Canadaor USA
).

The same was true of Patton as well. Both were egoistically involve in image.
