Help Identify Mystery 8 pocket belt

Found this little 8 pocket at the flea market yesterday. Local Milsurp collectors could not identify so posting a couple of photos for the experts.

It is a narrow 8 pocket belt, eagle snaps, 1901 PTD MCH 1904 brass stamped, 5 of the 8 pockets have had the flap cut off.

Looks like a US Army .38 Colt pistol belt.

A US 38 cartridge belt was what we all had guessed it might be but none of us had seen one before and seller had not found anything on line to match the belt.
As it has later style eagle snaps and lacks the eagle buckle would a safe guess be possibly a post SA war enlisted man's ammo belt?

The buckle is correct, I'm sure. The belt would have been issued with the .38 revolvers until they were withdrawn. It would be issued to whomever was designated to carry a revolver.

Nice catch, too bad about the flaps being cut off. If correct, it would have been pricey. There's bags of examples online, just a matter of hunting around and asking the right questions... Nice scarce belt.

From the images provided this appears to be a Revolver Cartridge Belt Model of 1903, (U.S. Martial Web Belts and Bandoliers: 1903-1981, R. Stephen Dorsey, pages 43-46) for caliber-.38 revolver cartridges. This belt should have eight pockets. It doesn't appear there is a "sabre ring" assembled which would be the mounted version, and this belt appears to be the dismounted model. (Images of the entire belt front and back would have been useful to positive identification)

Jim,
A dealer at the Tulsa, OK flea market picked it up around Wichita, KS.
He figured a Boy Scout did the trimming but it's a shame someone did it. At least they left three pocket flaps.
Drat the luck, Now I am going to have to go find a holster & a 1903 colt revolver to go with it.

I can see that, it would make a good trail belt for a kid. At least you have this one for now, I haven't even had one in hand.
