    Greek M1907 sling?

Here is a little puzzle. I am posting it here for lack of somewhere more appropriate.
It is a M1907 sling which someone shortened, presumably to fit a target rifle. Chunky brass hooks, and aluminium rivets, so presumably post-war manufacture.

The puzzle is the manufacturers stamp.
It appears to be a monogram of the letters "O", "M" and "theta".

There is no doubt that it is a "theta", not an 8 or a rounded/closed-up B or E.

So is this a Greek-made sling, or did some non-Greek manufacturer use the letter "theta"?

    Any ideas will be welcome!

I would think the shortening would be because the end gets weak at the frogs. The aluminum rivets would be what they had on hand and yes, the Greeks could do that. After altering they may mark it to them...are they manufactured by the Greeks? Possibly, they did need to overhaul their rifles. Show us the rest of this one?

The rest of the mystery sling...

    OK Jim, here it is.

The long portion is 41" (leather) or 41.5" to the loop.

Note that the holes only start at 36" from the loop end.

The short portion is 19" (leather) or 19.5" to the loop.
Hole pattern is unlike the other 1907 slings that I have, and the short section is very short!

My guess: it may have been made up from surplus 1907 material, but trimmed for a specific rifle and user.

Looks like it's soft as a mouse's ear...yes, very short. The holes aren't even much. Can't do much adjustment at all...I wonder, I wonder...others will be along though...

Hmmmmm? Looking at the way the holes only start at 36", could this be a recyled strap from an 1887 Trapdoor sling? With the short bit made up to compensate for the missing length?

Maybe, but the slings were marked then too... Love to have it in hand under my nose to see...don't know how that would help though. Just curious.
