    Need Help ID'g Barrel

A few years ago I purchased a new barrel from a retired Col's estate who was very active in CAS (Canadianicon Sniper/Specialist School) and the DCRA. At the time I was told by the Executor that it was purchased at Bisley in the early 70's and was an L42 barrel. Has been in storage since.

Just got interested in putting together a clone and here's my delema. Don't what to muck up a rare bare so hoping a few folks can at least give me an opinion on its origin...... Enfield, Parker Hale etc?

The barrel markings....on top of the breech "NOT PROOFED" and on the side aprox 2" from the breech face "A". Finish is suncorite. Barrel is hammer forged. The outside does not have the snake skin finish like my Envoy however has a mulitude of spirals full length except for the 2" of the breech end which has been factory turned smooth. The Barrel is 27.75" long; 1.24" dia over 1.32 at breech and tapers to 1.00" and .75" at the muzzle. It's chambered for 7.62x51,crowned, 4 groove and bore is like a mirror after cleaning out the cosmolineicon. No flat knox form however I was told this was done after the barrel shank was threaded.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for reading this. Ron

    Can you post a photo?

Doesn't sound like either type of 7.62mm Enfield barrel, and doesn't sound like the hammer-forged Parker Hale barrel which is very similar to the Enfield barrel, but without a knox flat.

A fine groove skin sounds a bit like a Madco or other commercial target barrel.
