Need info on Early M14 barrel (T48) ???

I have an M14 barrel marked SA 4 55 that is still attached to a receiver section. the drawing number on the receiver section is
B31A over 7267056
the barrel is marked SA 7267002 4 55
it also has a few P Samps
it has a walnut top hand guard I am trying to find the history and value of it.
any help would be great

The T48 was the FN FAL, US production by H&R and High Standard, your barrel should be from the T44 series

My mistake should have said T44

Difficult to find an original M14 wood handguard, they are very thin at the rear and almost always cracked.

Earlest dated M14 (production) barrel that I have seen was SA 1 - 60

The barrel is for the T44E4 not the T44. The T44 was long gone by 1955 in developmental circles.

This mis-identification is not uncommon. Collector/enthusiasts are constantly taking the lazy path when it comes to designations. I constantly have individuals looking for:

"Forward Assist Upper Receiver for my M16" - The M16 did not have a forward assist, it was the M16A1

"Parts for my Smith Corona 03" - The receiver is marked 03A3 and SC never made 03's

"Parts for my WWII 1911 made by Remington Rand" - Remington Rand never made 1911's only 1911A1's.

"Parts for Remington 03" - This one is a dangerous one. I have to get clarification because usually he means 03A3.

For several years now many have been refering to the T44E4 as the T44. I am talking about individuals that should know the difference. Usually it is laziness or the lack of interest in learning.


For anybody's information: 7267520 was the part number of the T48 barrel.
