Help Identifying an Old Ladder Sight

I was wondering if anyone had any idea what this sight might be for. As you can see it's nearly twice as big as other ladder sights. I have not been able to find any info on it. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Is it possibly for an early machine gun? It's so long I doubt it's for rifle.
