No 4 Mk1 Trials Rifle Rear Sight Plunger & Spring

A favour from members who are lucky enough to own a trials rifle with its original rear sight.....

I'm after the details of the spring and plunger (dimensional details ideally)

There's no plunger, it's only a ball bearing and if you measure the hole with a vernier or plug gauge you'll find out what size is required. I'm afraid I don't recall except that it is possibly a few thou larger than the major diameter of the shank on the later plungers. The ball bearing idea wasn't a great one as the small contact area no doubt soon led to deformation of the hole and looseness in the sights.

A plain cylindrical plunger made up with a half round end would be another option if the hole is too badly worn at the top to hold the sight consistently enough for shooting - if one wanted to shoot such a rifle.

Very different
Trials rifle rear sights had circular cutouts for a ball detent for the raised and lowered positions

Std production No4 sights had flats that rested on the familiar spring loaded 'top hat'

No matter how I looked I couldn't find detail on them... The standard sights I have...
