Thank You,
The 5,5 was my Fathers. Snuck home in an Australians duffel bag for a couple cartons of smokes. Dad seen the US GI's gear was being checked before getting off the ship, but the Australians and Canadians with them were passing straight thru without being checked. It also cost him drinks at the local watering hole. He said it cost him every dime he had to pay the tab. He was in the Phillipines with an Engineers unit. He mainly carried his sidearm and kept his carbine in his locker. I've had it since I was about 14 or 15.
I was told never to shoot it, and I haven't. I will when Dad passes on. Didn't know much about it until he came down with Alzheimers and dug it out one day while reminiscing. That's how I met the gang on
Jouster
to see what I had.
We had another one at that time that had a boxed SG and a Crossed Cannon. It had a RIA over EB stamp I asked about. My *** still burns from asking if stocks were restamped after rebuilding. I was called a humper, gun faker etc...I didn't know better at the time. Many here might remember that. They beat me worse than SETH!!
The 5,8 I bought from a Pastor near Flint, Michigan. It belonged to his Father who also served in the PTO at about the same time as my Father. He had never fired it since his Fathers passing. The barrel was full of packing grease. He's the one that gave me some extra parts he thought went with it. I sat amazed as he kept pulling extras out of his safe. He threw in a extra stock, which was a Inland Type II. about a dozen mags....both 15 and 30rd. About 1/2 were in the wrap. a couple of extra handguards, aprox 280 rds of 44 WRA ammo (loose) and as I was leaving found a bayonet and unmarked type II band. I offered to pay extra but he wouldn't take it $$.
I sent his church a donation. Figured it was the least I could do.
Cheers
