This pic surfaced on FB and I was looking at it identifying the various weapons held by the diggers, the usual No 1 MkIII's, Bren, and then I saw the compensator.
Without looking much further I thought Thompson but looked harder as the weapon is blocked partially from view then you get to see the whole deal.
What it appears to be is an Owen gun with a dirty great banana mag that nearly touches the compensator.
Battle of Beaufort
From the 26th to the 28th of June 1945, Australians of the 2/43rd and 2/32nd diggers pictured after the battle.
I only have the book on the owen that covers certain issues at the time with its development and not the models and accruements.
Anyone in the know can they enlighten us as to the fact that may was produced for the owen or its a forward workshops non standard thing.Information
