GI Slings back in stock

If you read this,
I see that company has 'GI Carbine Slings' back in stock for $99.95 each, limit of 2.
How many times have you seen them out of stock, then back in stock?
Maybe a dozen times over the last few years ?

I've been wondering where they get them........
Look up Mil Spec MIL-W-530 1" cotton
I have a few bookmarks showing Welt Anti-Squeak they used between old Chevy and Ford body panels, I'll have to find later. Wait here's one:

Also seen surplus and new production rolls of cotton weave.
I've seen some rolls of it in the last few months with tags on them 60's dated.
I also recall seeing sealed bags of replacement C tips and Snaps from WWII.

I found some this morning that match the WWII era snaps, top marking and even the detail on the backs. And available in a Antiqued blackened brass, so they appear period correct.
I don't want to give the links, so these 2 pictures are just examples of what comes in a Snap kit and the look of the Antiqued blackened brass. The matching ones I found come in both small lots and are available in bulk.




Now some C Tip ends, the bigger centers- top picture, the narrow centers- bottom picture.
I also found these by a big supplier that look much more authentic:




Here is some cotton weave the seller says is sold by the yard and that it is;
"Cold war relic..." . But I have found the matching weave for WWII era slings.
This sellers is close but not a match and his shipping might be a problem because it's flown in from Ukraine.


The Flat Slider / Keeper / Buckle can be found from a couple of Leather and Strap hardware suppliers / Crafts type suppliers. There are also some always listed on Auction as NOS.
I also found Round Keepers but just in Stainless and Nickel plated so far. Many different sizes available.

I guess this is just a FWIW post, but with C tips selling for $100+ I can see how you could run out of stock. It's gotta take a while when your storing the web in a musty old tent, add a little stretching, measure before you stake in the fasteners and adding a smudge mark from contact with a oiler / swivel could reap some funds for the skilled forger. Hell even the brass loop on the top for the Finial post can be tarnished to look aged. 1 Q tip dab of a simple potion will do it.

I wonder if they've come up with a 'Musty Webbing Scent' yet ?

One of my other hobbies is watch repair. One skill you learn in that game is that anything that is put together can be taken apart. You've unlocked a puzzle and all I can say is WOW! Same sh## different day. That is just amazing. Look at Leviton electrical switches: the same switch in a new box, it is not just the same, it is exactly the same.

I have two "C" tip slings. The first one bought 10 years ago, was a repo and sold as a repo. Cost me $10. The second came from an "estate" sale (pickup at the range full of stuff) and is a genuine WW2 C tip sling, still only $15 two years ago. The need to have correct has made the fake market blossom and now reproductions are sold as original. It sucks that our need to have the best and most historical has led to fakers and humps getting our hard earned dollars. My gut feel is that unless you know the seller, the chance of a original part is pretty low. I have tried to sell a M1 Garand round firing pin without success. Do I have it priced too high? Probably but it is original and not very easy to fake, at least by me. Anything worth anything is worth faking and unfortunately, it is not going to get better. The amount of real 80 year old stuff is shrinking every day. It is cool to have the real thing, but in practice, you have to sell to make it work.

My last purchased sling was for the Inland and I bought it from Jim Flavin for about $80. Good enough source?

I'm still using that blued tip sling on my Winchester. I'm still not convinced that it is a fake. The carbine was completely original and the oiler was a SW on the lid which points to a very early package of slings and oilers. Carbine 3/44, sling and oiler ?

Sorry I'm a bit late with this, Charlie - haven't had much time for my hobbies lately. I ordered my first "C" Tip from them in 2011 for $44.95 and received a phone call from an employee (you know him) asking what condition I wanted. Pictures (now gone) were posted here and I think JimF, Harlan, you, and others approved of it. I've bought others since for $59.95 and $69.95 and they vary a bit from that first one - mainly because they look a little bit too new. One of the last ones was wrapped in a heavy foil and I believe came out of storage somewhere - it appears brand new and differs a bit in length from some of the others. I've bought stocks from that company too, and the only one that's a bit suspect is that OI Type 3 that you "OK'd" for me in 2019 - I really think it is OK, though. I don't check their site very often but last time I did, I saw the slings were still "out of stock" and the stocks were getting very expensive, even for the rough ones. I made a mistake and bought one of their repro (India) slings once for $7.95 and it was so bad that I sold it at a gun-show about 4 years later for a dollar!

Sure wish so many of our pictures hadn't been lost. I took a look awhile ago at our "sticky" threads on "Marked Carbine Slings" and it's just not the same without all of the pictures. Makes a guy wonder if the "humpers" were behind the loss, somehow?

I spent quite a bit of time a couple years ago looking at webbing and hardware and found about the same as you've linked to here. I did buy a roll of that Dennis Carpenter "anti-squeak" (for my Ford F-1) and it's a woven synthetic material rather than cotton webbing. Also around that same time, I spent time searching for comments about slings from "that company" and only found one "questionable" comment. I'm fairly sure it was on the CMP Forums and made by a member from Southern Oregon that I believe I've dealt with at Portland gun shows before. At a later show I questioned him about the comment on the CMP Forum and he said it wasn't him. I tried to find that comment later (questioning the slings) but was unable to locate it.

Another thing that's kind of interesting happened the last time I placed an order with that company. I called it in and while the order was being processed, spent quite a bit of time talking with a guy that turned out to be the owner. He was originally from an area in Eastern Europe which is very near Ukraine. He basically told me his life story and I was really impressed with him - a straight shooter, I think.

I've got 10 carbines at this time. All of them have slings. 5 are original C-tips. 3 are real GI D- tips, 2 cotton and one nylon. 2 are repops. The Ds are on rebuilt carbines as are the repops. The repops will be replaced whenever I can find originals to replace them.

After my first 5 carbines, when I purchased my 6th it didn't have a sling. Way back on the old gun and knife forum (RIP) then later on Culvers everyone was raging about the price of Slings getting near $35 each. I started studying them and buying real ones from Auction sites for around $40-$50. I just kept buying as I came across them. At the time it wasn't common knowledge to many that some C tips had come with blackened steel hardware because of the brass issue, so I was buying those when I could because guys thought they were fake. I just kept picking them off as I could. When Mr Ricca posted in sling posts the prices kept going up as guys learned what to look for. About that time add all those CMP carbines that were being sold increasing the selling prices of stocks, parts and slings going up pretty fast. Then one morning in Feb 2013 I found a new GB listing about 5 minutes old that had them for $50 each, just fill in the quantity you wanted. I put one in the basket and messaged the seller: MUSEUMPACIFIC. Guy called me right away and said if I bought the one in my basket he'd close the auction so he could go thru the boxes of slings. I purchased it and in minutes the listing was closed. I worked out a bulk purchase of about 300+. He told me they were a Museum in Texas and they were clearing out stuff they were filled to the brim with and needed the space. Mostly stuff that was donated to them from Gov and private.
I forgot his name but he hand picked out the ones with just C tips and no fraying. I got them cheaper than the listed GB price. He contacted me again to see if I'd be interested in anything else or slightly frayed C tips or any D tips, but I passed having more than I'd ever need. Wish I could remember his name but I think he thought I over paid. Maybe the reason the box of slings had a couple canvas carry cases, web pouches, misc straps and some helmet webbing gear thrown in. Wife thought I was nuts spending over 5 figures on a box of stinky slings. I can still see 'The Look' I got with her knowing I'd paid just over $12,000 on them. I set on them while the prices surged then started listing about a dozen of them at different times with a starting bid of ~$45.00 IIRC. They'd sell for + or - $100 each. Sometimes as high as ~$150, many I'd sell to the buyer off the auction site. In all I sold enough, about 100~105 of them to recover my initial costs and auction fees. Leaving me about 200 slings from that buy and the thrown in web gear. Since then I've traded and given some to guys getting started. Much like my bulk stock and handguard years ago, it worked out well. But like most things Carbine related I'm still a buyer.

Anyone ever price Danner Boots ?
I was telling the Wife if I was Registered that I would have bid on this lot of 384 pair of Danner Hot Weather boots. Last summer I paid nearly $250 for a pair of these same boots.
Someone won this lot for $8,595.00 Plus Fees. That works out (Not counting Fees and pick up) to be $22.38 a pair. Flip these to a few boot shops and make a little extra $$.
