And when I've taken out the stock bolt, I'd grind off the square section at the end so no poor soul screws up the fore end in future.
Wood is getting scarce, and personally I've not known a bolt becoming loose in civilian use... has anyone?

"The end bolt should be 1 complete thread inside the butt socket" (below the surface)

A good habit to cultivate is to always remove the forestock first regardless of model.
