Exciting antique store find

While perusing thru a pile of knives and bayonets in my favorite antique store, I came across this gem. It is a very rusty and battered 1891 Argentine Mauser bayonet. I was very excited about the find and they even knocked $10.00 off the price.

I could really care less about a rusty, battered Argentine bayonet. As far as I was concerned, it would make a good tent peg. BUT, it was the scabbard that caught my eye. I have looked for one of these scabbards for years and finding one in the wild is a stroke of good luck for me.
A M1917 early scabbard, a bit battered but still good.

That's hard to find in working condition., or any condition! Is Jewell the maker?

Yes, the ' Jewell Belting Company ' of Hartford, Connecticut, USA.

Unfortunatley any stamping in that area is undecipherable.

75% better chance of finding the Bayonet than the scabbard. You might be surprised what electrolysis would do for the Bayonet.

LOL, good one. I was about to say you got royally screwed on that bayonet, but the scabbard is worth that.

Yup, good catch on the scabbard. Lots of nice US marked M1917 blades with "Other" scabbards on them. The Argentine blade, well, whatever...they're around. You can't see if it has a crest and even if it does, it's hard done.

Nope, no crest, lots of rust though, except for the brass grips.

Most had the crest ground, if you find one with the crest still present, you really have a good find.
