Inland Barrel Marking??

First post guys, great to be here where all the talk is about my new favorite hobby. Retired now and really getting into seeing what I can find.

I recently bought an Inland Handstamped 1 carbine with the serial number of 6,095,xxx with no date or Inland markings on the end of the barrel. At the other end of barrel there is stamped 1 - B R on top of the barrel just in front of where it meets the receiver.

1.) Does this have any significance? 2.) Is having no Date and Inland markings correct for late manufactured Inlands.

I have two other handstamped Inlands with serial numbers in the 6.6 and 6.7 million range and the barrels are dated and Inland marked.

One Inland I have in the 6.4 million range has the Inland markings but no date.
Again, is this correct for late Inland production?

Just started collecting last year so any information will certainly be appreciated.

The serial number 6,095,xxx is in the assigned serial number range for Rockola, not Inland. Are you sure it is not a 6.8 million that looks like a 6.0 million.

Undated Inland barrels are not uncommon in the 5 and 6 million range of Inlands, but everyone that I have seen have the Inland Division of General Motors marking even if the date was missing.

Is your carbine a very recent purchase from the CMP?

Sorry, the 6,095,xxx is my Rock-ola number. I meant to put 6,965,xxx for the unmarked Inland barrel. It's not a CMP buy. Local individual.

I would think it could be 6.6 also.

I have a 5.0 milion, Undated with BI behind gas port. my 6.6 million is dated,
with II behind gas port. Look for the BI.

I just checked the 6.9 (no barrel markings on end) and the 6.7 (has markings) and they both have what looks like I-I behind the gas port. Both have the little p between the bayonet lug and the front sight.

Several months ago I went to look at one advertised and that Inland had double markings on the end of the barrel, Inland markings and date doubled. One set stamped under the barrel and the exact same set stamped on top of the barrel. Guess they made a mistake and corrected it by stamping it again on top.

So I thought they just made a mistake, and it being so late in production, by missing the stamping on this barrel end. Being fairly new I guess I'll be more careful in my ssumptions from now on.

Sure looks exactly like all the other GI barrels on my other carbines.

I would suggest that you mic your unmarked barrel along it's entire length and then do the same with your other Inland dated barrels and compare them. Some of the humpers have been taking import marked barrels and turning them on a lathe removing the import marks but this also removes the makers information. A late serial number in the 6.9 range should have a dated barrel. This may not be the case with your barrel but one never knows for sure today.

Thanks bruce, my son has a mic and I'll check it. The barrel proof "p" mark is strong and sharp and looks exactly like the other Inlands I have. The machining is the same from end to end. After checking with the mic and if it is the same as the others I'll be wondering if it was an Inland barrel that went unmarked or replacement barrel that went unmarked. If the mic indicates the barrel is smaller in diameter then we know something is "fishy".

In Riesch's 6th edition of U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production he states at the bottom of page 46 that barrels are found without dates and the Ordnance Department Flaming Bomb symbol on some barrels of all makers except the Underwood and Springfield Armory barrels.

I do have an Inland with the Inland and General Motors marking on the end of the barrel but not dated. This one is in the 6.4 range. I just thought it possible they also missed the Inland and Gen. Motors marking on the 6.9

The Ordnance Dep't. didn't require dates, but they did require manufacturer's identification on all parts. If the barrel is not marked in any way it is either altered or not US.

A friend has same marked Inland Receiver/Barrel, marked the same on top rear of barrel, just in front of receiver hand guard overhang, within same serial# range. Gives validation to your Inland awhile ago. Do you still have it & have you found any more info on it? His seems original, as mfg'd. Thanks!
