No. 4 Mk 1 ID help

    Hello,

I just purchased my first Enfield and wanted to confirm some of the ID markings.

No. 4 Mk 1 is stamped on the left side of the action body

M 47 is stamped on the buttstock socket

    Below M 47 is BC 23480

BC 23480 is also stamped on the bottom of the fore-end stock and on the bolt handle.

    I don't see a year of manufacture.

From my digging, the serial number would lead me to believe the gun was built in Fazakerely, but the M 47 marking points to BSA.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Is it a No4 Mk1 or No4 Mk1* (note the 'star') ?
Is there an F in brackets after the model number ? This might indicate a rebuild (FTR) by Fazakerly.
What makes you think there is a Fazakerly connection ? The serial number does look "Fazakerly-ish"

M47 is definately the wartime code for BSA

I'm thinking Fazakerely due to the serial number starting with 2.

There is no * after the 1 on No. 4 Mk 1.

    There is no F either.

Thanks for the help, really appreciate it.
