Jim thanks for the pics. We all need to HONOR these men. The survivors are leaving us every day. I've seen the pic with the M-8 before. Did you notice the walking Marine carrying the trench shotgun?.....Frank

Yes, I saw it. One Item I am still looking for, wish I had one.
I wanted to post this for my father in law who died last Saturday morning. He was on Iwo Jima, he would have been 89 on May 2nd.

My father in law left us Friday, he was 86. He would have been in the invasion of the home islands but the bombs were dropped. He was in the occupation force in Japan

My dad, who was on Iwo, died January 9th, 2003, age 90. I still miss him to this day...
Thanks for reminding us.
Here's a link to my post about Iwo Maps. I just had two emails about them and getting high res-JPEG.

A few years back when I read "Flags of Our Fathers" I reminded myself to always recall the names of the six Marines who raised the second flag. Three never made it off the island alive: Mike Strank, Harlon Block, and Franklin Sousley. The three that did were John Bradley, Rene Gagnon and Ira Hayes. I remember these six in order to honor all the others.

Thank you for the post. My father-in-law was in the Marines, but not on Iwo, he was on Okinawa. My father served in the Navy for 30 years 1926-1956 and was in the Pacific durin WWII.
