Interesting M1 carbine pic
I found this pic while doing some research on SAC operations. Photo was taken at Barksdale in 1960.
I thought I would share it with everyone. Looks like it either has a Saginaw or Inland barrel in on of the pics. You can scroll down the page and see several pics of carbines being used by the air police at SAC bases.
Here is the link: B-52 Jet pilot overseas

Sure, why not. They'll do the job just fine.

Bubba-7,
I see late features and a 30 round magazine, but cannot see the left side.
How are you telling it is an M-2? Or do you know that was what they were issued?

I mentioned to my father my recent interest in the Carbine, and he said he qualified with one in the USAF. He was in during the time of that picture.

Forums are slow, so I just made it up to see who would bite. but in all reallity, What MP would have a M1
when he could have an M2. And if it is not one when issued, it would be one a short time later. Some armorer on base would have all the parts.

I would have thought that all were converted to M2 by say 1951 or 52 at the latest. I wouldn't think any M1s would be in stock by the 60s.

I don't know about the first being a M2 but this one also from Barksdale around the same time is a M2 for sure.

Was in USAF 1958 THRU 1966 and always had M1
's when issued for duty and range. Didn't ever see a M2. Guess that's why I'm here now.

This one I think is either at KI Sawyer or Kincheloe in Michigan and it looks like a M1
with no bayo lug and a Saginaw profile stock.
The pick is after 1960 because it is a B-52H which were made in 60-61 but before 65-68 when SAC was switching from the original natural metal and anti-flash white to the SIOP camo. I think the H's were the last to get the camo paint because they never came off nuclear alert like the D's, F's and G's that when to SEA.
