My Dad Veteran South Pacific
On his day,I post his picture along with his Great-Grandson Brandon. My dad was a radioman rear-gunner in SBD'S 1942-1945 in the South Pacific Campaign. My grandson Brandon has a keen interest in WWII History (and Carbines).

Great post Rust! Was your Dad at Midway? That's where the SBDs sank the Japanese
carriers. I posted my own tribute to my Dad and my uncles. I included a pic of the younger generation with a carbine also!

That was a real Navy war
They had the highest entry standards to meet of any service if I recall, and lost just a ton of people during the war. The Dauntless won the war in about 10 hours at Midway. The Japanese never recovered from the loss of those carriers and pilots. Imagine how much stuff was on each ship; tools, mechanics, spare parts, beds, dishes, lathes, bullets, bombs. The Japanese just didn't have the industrial capability to recover.
Your Dad had to be a pretty brave and talented guy to do that job.
