Yeah, I know. But from the numbers, a couple hundred thousand in a 6 month period or so? Maybe my math is wrong. Or the block of numbers are not that big. That's probably what it was. Either way, they whole system was pumping them out. That's for sure. It's hard to wrap my head around. What was it, 6 million some made? Within 3 years?

Standard Products barely had a 12 month run and did a touch over 247,000 carbines. (Their serial block was 370,000 wide.) While there were production ups and downs, that puts a ROUGH average of 20,500 per month or about 700 per DAY (Ruth has more exact numbers).

As far as barrels go and dating what is on your SP, remember that SP used barrels (mostly Underwood) from the Free Barrel Program. So the date of the barrel may not accurately date the production date of the receiver or complete program. If the barrel is original to the carbine, the carbine production/assembly would be a date AFTER the date of the barrel.

I never realy got into Standard P. to heavy. They were to hard to find correct parts for with their numbered parts. But I do have a original 2,165,--- S.P. with a 1-44 barrel. I would guess yours would be 12-43.

Thank you. I would call that "pumping them out". But I'm guessing some of the other contractors were doing more than that. But 700 a day? Wow. I can't imagine.

I was looking at the barrel picture, and I am seeing 12-43 for a barrel date. I massaged the picture a little and I think it is clearer in this pic:

I picked it up today! Hurray! Broke it down, ands no surprise, had not been cleaned since it was shot. The pison was tight and would not move, but after about 10 minutes soaking in WWII vintage GI bore cleaner, it moves freely. Everything was dry inside and dirty. Cleaned up nice, though. The trigger guard and slide are Quality Hardware, but didn't break it down all the way for a detail strip yet. Maybe after I test fire it and sight it in. I did notice the barrel is hung perfectly in the recoil lug, per CMP tech notes. Also NO IMPORT STAMPS! I put an empty case in the chamber and cycled the action. VERY positive ejection, about 3+ feet to my my 4 o'clock. Fed 110 FMJ rounds cycling by hand from a USGI 30 rounder. More to come. I am very happy.

The stock has a gloss finish like spar varnish of gloss Verathane. Pretty good for a duty gun that will be out in the Sierra Nevadas in all weather.

Update: Took the Standard Products to work with me tonight. I found an appropriate place in the woods, set up a carbine 25 yard target, paced of about 30 yards. Illuminating the target with the Jeeps headlights (it was pitch black), I fired 5 rounds from the top of a 30 round USGI magazine filled with 110 FMJ Remington ammo. I fired off-hand, leaning my body against the patrol jeep. This is what I got:



Not bad, for basically off-hand shooting, at night, using headlights. Never had to move the sight from its 100/150 setting, and it seems centered as I got it. I fired the rest of the magazine (25 rounds) off hand at various dirt clods and pine cones from 15-30 yards, using a 6 o'clock hold, and seemed to nail everything I shot at. SWEET!!!!!! I'll post a picture later.
