303 wood filler
Does any one know what species of wood was used as replacement for the aluminum in the 303 ball round?
I would think it would be something with a similar density to aluminum to keep the same point on balance and weight.

I doubt that that is possible. Most wood, with a density less than 1, floats. Aluminium, with a density of around 2.7, most definitely doesn't.
