Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Dispenser

Bought the above today, the print says accurate to .1gr. so what have you owners found, good or bad. Appreciate any comments.

I use the RCBS one and have found it accurate. Maybe once every 50 rds a clump will fall out when it's trickling the last few tenths and over throw. These things are a great time saving investment for the reloader who shoots often. I use mine for rifle and magnum pistol rds and a regular thrower for the other pistols rds. Much less tedious then a scale alone.

I use a pump type powder dispenser that feeds directly into a cartridge held under the nozzle and check about every fifth load on a digital scales. The newer, automatic scales that are combined with an automatic dispenser would not be a great help, as they (as yet) do not feed directly into a cartridge. The powder falls into a scoop that then has to be filled into the cartridge, most likely with the help of a funnel. I find that my powder dispenser is quite accurate, but that accuracy changes as then powder level in the container drops.

I have had a Hornady Lock and Load for over 2 years now and it hasn't missed a beat, get onto the Hornady website and find the settings you can change that aren't in the instruction manual, makes like a lot easier. Find it excellent for our ADI stick powders AR2208 labelled over in the US as Varget.

I have that type as well as a turret press however find both are subject to slight variances which is a pain as I want to be more exact for what I am going to load now.

Agree! I have (as yet) not found a technical solution to variances that seem to be caused when the amount of powder in the hopper decreases (the baffle in the hopper doesn´t make much difference). What is missing is a precise digital dispencer that feeds directly into each cartridge (nogt into a little pan that then has to be poured in to the cartridge)-

My friend has a Redding powder thrower and swears by it I have watched that thing throw time and again bang on every round and he loads for some rather fussy rounds 6.5 x 47 and a 22BR as well as 308's, I have the lee thrower for my 303's took the lock & load one off the press. I use a DPM3 (throwing .2 under the load I want) lee scales goes like this - DPM3 auto throwing the charge - one in the scale balancing and one in the press getting the projie seated flows really well by the time you seat the projectile the lee beam scale has settled ready for the trickle by the time I have done that the DPM3 has finished the next load and on it goes.

Have any of you given trail boss a go as I was toying with the idea of running in a new barrel with it as you can fill the case to just under the neck with no pressure problems I have seen this done with a 7mm Rem mag which I shot very comfortable and 308's what do you think rather than use fairly stout loads as earlier I have been caught with low density loads in my 6.5x284 rather a scary adventure.

There's dead time while the dispenser is throwing the next charge. Pouring the charge and seating the bullet fills that time. When one gets into rhythm the fact is your waiting on the dispenser. It's the best way I found, otherwise your twiddling your thumbs waiting for the dispenser. If one is used to throwing all his charges first then seating "as I was" it's a minor procedural change. The benefits of throwing directly into the case are negligible IMO.
I picked this up to eliminate the funnel.
