1941 BSA

I've got 4343A. It doesn't have the S51 on the underside of the butt which is matching. Markings were progressing early on but not standardized, (pretty much), until 1943. I'm still waiting to see one dated 1942.

Me too Brian. I've had a couple of early B or ROFM conversions that had original butts but no S51, although most have had it. I've yet to see a 42 BSA or Maltby. In theory there should be a few out there, but none have crossed my path to date.....

It had been said for many years that no Faz rifles were ever converted, but it seems that a few did in fact go through the process - probably just amongst these early rifle conversions. It would make sense, as when H&H first took over the conversions from RSAF Enfield, they would have taken the first conversions from a pool of already available rifles. This was in 1942, so you'd expect to see some 1941 & 1942 rifles of potentially all manufacturers. (They had not yet gone over to using exclusively BSA produced rifles). As mentioned above, it's a mystery why all of the No4's of UK production (there are plenty of 1942 Savage rifles) seem to be of exclusively 1941 manufacture. Maybe someone can enlighten us? Or maybe there are a few out there that we just haven't stumbled over as yet. Peter, any thoughts?
