'artyldro1' - No SRS hit for your Krag
, #112404, in the Krag serial number tables, contained in Frank Mallory's, "Krag Rifle Story", 2nd edition. (Closest numbers listed are #112192 & #112460).
Your model 1898 rifle was likely assembled around July, 1898.
It appears wood has been cut from the front edge of your hand-guard. The wood should extend a the way to the back edge of the barrel-band.

First thing I saw but thought maybe I was wrong...can't imagine why except if it had been damaged and that cleaned it up.

It was explained to me that it was a common method to repair a minor crack and prevent it from getting worse.

Yes it was, so they say...
Anyway, nice looking rifle. When you have it maybe you can show us more...

If my research is right July was the first month of production for the 1898?
