At least one other bidder was willing to pay $3000. I just do not see it being worth that much but it obviously was to at least 2 bidders. Stating that the box is not original would be more wise.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... considering that

I probably know more about collecting 1911s than Mark (Jackthedog) and that is VERY little, and me personally, I would have NO DANG IDEA whether the box was original or not, other than the fact that I know boxes are indeed faked/

Thus if Mark knows LESS than me, the fact that he clearly indicates the box is likely fake, is all he can do. The gun is virtually brand new, a nice box isn't too strange. I guess a wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse sometimes.

Mark is a CONSIGNMENT seller. He simply conveys what the consignors tell him about the guns sent to him.

the price paid is fair for the new owner, and the seller. It's what they agreed upon. If folks want to presume to know more than those two, well, they're critics, I suppose, but really don't have any business in the transaction. They just think they do. I've noticed that a lot of people love to bitch about what someone pays for something, but especialy if it's a nice piece. So the auction price was too high for most of the collectors who are known for voicing thier opinions, what does that tell you? if you are a collector, and prices are too high, then perhaps it's time to consider selling, you can always take the money and run. laissez faire ... if you don't have a place in that, then you're just a bitch, or a bystander. It's like the stock market. All the whiners are losers. Many may disagree, and I welcome your explanation as to why capitalism shouldn't apply to trading guns... at least we're still allowed to do that, here in America.

As a side note, I can't even begin to reason how good pictures could be misconstrued as duping, unless voiced by persons who excell in twisting the truth, like joeseph goebbels, or saddam hussien, or maybe bernie madoff. If everyone listed pictures like JTD does, then prices, at least for top end collectibles, would probably soar. Then you relly could bitch!

At least we can assume the seller was a capitalist.
