if i can recommend a different way to remove shellac. i did it this way:
1. use Citristrip (a mild stripper that can be found at Lowe's or Home Depot
2. brush Citristrip onto stock. let sit for 10+ minutes and then wipe off with clean cloth or towel
3. let air dry for a few minutes
4. use a cloth dipped in denatured alcohol and wipe down stock to remove leftover shellac and Citristrip (use rubber gloves when handling denatured alcohol)
5. wipe stock dry
6. denatured alcohol again and let it dry.
7. let stock sit for an hour or so just to make sure no cosmolineor shellac that has soaked in leaks out
8. when ready, apply the finish. i used Boiled linseed oilbut Howard's Feed and Wax is also great. if you use BLO
, you can use as many coats as you wish, but i think 2 is perfect. let dry completely in between coats
