When I bought my L42 two of the metal corner pieces on the transit case were missing. I looked at having a batch made as this seemed to be a common problem, but unfortunately the cost made it a non starter so I decided to make a couple myself.
I found a distressed piece of galvanised plate of the correct gauge that was in keeping and used the original corner piece as a pattern to cut and file the two blanks to shape. The edges were folded in a vice with smooth jaws, but the challenge was reproducing the three punched countersunk holes. I turned up a male and female former in the lathe (see picture) and used the spigot on the male former to align it to pilot holes drilled in the corner piece. I then used the vice as a press for the forming tools
I think it worked out rather well - see if you can spot the original among the three in the pictures.
I've attached the sketch I used to make them if anyone else wants to have a goInformation
