US 90th ID Personnel use the 105mm guns at the recently captured Fort de Guentrange in Thionville France to fire on Germanforces - September 12, 1944
Originally a German fort before WW1, the area was annexed by France after WW1, the original 100mm guns were replaced with 105mm Krupp guns captured in WW1 and the fort was incorporated into the FrenchMaginot Line defense system
The fort overlooks the Moselle valley and its western approaches, as well as the railway lines to the west of Thionville
The Germans name for the fort was “Feste Ober-Gentringen”
After WW2, the French Army used the fort to store munitions until 1971, it is now open for tours, see comments for present day pictures
