If I recall, back in the 80s, China North (Norinco) made knock offs of 1911s, AR15s, M1As, and M1 Carbines for a short time. The ARs did not make it into the country, though lots of 1911s and some M1As did. I don't know about the carbines. I was at the Shot Show in New Orleans as a guest of Hornady sometime in the mid-80s and remember seeing dealer flyers at the China North importers booth. Later saw M1As and 1911s.

These carbines were made in the late 40's early 50's. Some were imported into the country but not very many made it in before they were shut off so they are on the rare side.

Bruce,
Did China North ever import any? I know they had the carbines (probably same tooling as this one made with) and fake AR15s, but the AR15s never made it in. I just saw them listed on the flyer. I have seen the Chinese M16s/ARs in Small Arms of the World, also.
If I remember right, they made the AR lowers wide enough inside for full auto except pivot hole. That way they could make fake export M16s. BATFE was not to happy and said no.

I don't think they did import any new carbines. Just the ones that were made around the Korean war time frame and they were brought in a long time ago. The quality of those ranged from OK to down right crude. Seems like the very few I have seen were more hand made then anything else.

Was the quality better than the fake Chinese LC52 ammo they brought in???
