7.7 Jap from .30-06?
Can you modify .30-06 brass to make 7.7mm Jap out of it? Is it cost effective to do so?

Why, yes! Yes you can!
Not so cost effective as long as Hornady brass is available, but its long been the easiest way to get good brass.
Just remember to anneal the case necks after forming or they will tend to split over time.

I prefer to use 8mm mauser cases then you don't have to trim so much brass, but either can be used. I've done both.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

This rifle turned out to have been sporterized, but I bought it anyway for a tinkering project. What about just having the rifle converted to .30-06? I've got a few thousand '06 rounds and cases.

Hello guys,
Just reading the post here and associated replys. I thought I heard Hornady made 7.7 brass, as jmoore mentions, but have not found any for sale anywhere. Does anyone know where to get it?
FWIW, I have seen that Privi Partizan makes 7.7 Jap brass too.

Rondog,
Please don't chamber to 30-06! It probably won't shoot worth a darn after its done unless you reload it w/ larger than 0.308" bullets anyways.

What size are the 7.7mm bullets? Are they .311-.312 like the Mosin and Enfield?

They could be .310-.311, but it really is not a guarantee; some difference in bore diameters has been seen in the past, and one never knows for sure without slugging the bore.

Hmmm, new 7.7x58 brass is kinda pricey! Since I have 4 gallons of .30-06 brass already, can anybody point me towards a good tutorial about how to cut them down to 7.7? I already have a trimmer, just don't know what all's involved.
