If all they do is stipulate "7.62mm" firearms, then they won't need to specifically include it. The one designation will do for all 7.62 cartridges. After all, there are no (?) purely civillian firarms designated 7.62mm, they were all military at one time or another, or are of military type.

You mean I would lose my TT33 Tokarev? That's unfair. Gary

I think they're more interested in 7.62 and 5.56 NATO. Time will tell.

I think that its not saying you'll lose your weapons, just you wont be able to sell them across borders, wont be able to buy ammuniton, & wont be able to 'roll your own' ammunition (any calibre in the future, according to the article))
Although - whilst you can still 'roll your own' - how anyone will know that the 308 case, 308 bullet and powder is going into making a 7.62 round rather than a 308 is beyond me.
I guess in the future we'll all be using 308 in our 7.62 irrespective of 'generous chamber' sizes, 'excessive pressures' or 'weak actions' *
*No response required on that last sentemce.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Looking at the article Alan kindly posted, it looks like the UN is pushing for all ammunition and firearms to be manufactured only by governments for their military, and none for us evil civilians, and this would be the end for reloading, too (probably end up as a felony). It will be interesting to see how this may play out in the US, with the 2nd Amendment clashing with UN mandates. With Obama in charge, I do not like the 2nd Amendment's chances....

The TT33 was tongue in cheek. This is not. We could end up as France
, Italy
and others with no civilian ownership of military caliber firearms. Gary

Don't forget Mexico. It has had the same ban for many years.
Get North America out of the UN and the UN out of North America.
We have to hope the US Democratic Party, can find another Teddy Roosevelt, he was a Democrat and immensely popular. The Dems have certainly been on a very slippery slope since Teddy.

Just to put you right on France
..........
We do have civilian ownership of military firearms in
both civilian and military calibers, both pistols and rifles.
This is an interesting bit....., when I stop shooting and give
up my license, I will be able to keep my rifles in civilian
calibers only, at home.
France is not as strict as people think, just some of the rules
are a little strange as 2 world wars have been fought here on our soil,
and many fire arms were left here for us to hide and use, and we still keep finding them in perfect condition. (where do you think I have got many of mine from, and have now declared them).
Basically the rules are, if it is a military caliber rifle, any pistol or
semi auto rifle, then basically you need permission from your club,a police check and permission the buy,
If it is a civilian caliber rifle, .22 rifle (not a semi auto), then all you need
to do is join a club and it is the club that gives you your license (permit)
to shoot and buy section 5,7 and 8 fire arms. Section 1 and 4 are military
caliber and pistols.
There are a few other hoops to jump through but they are just really just paper work, and as you know we just love our paper work.
As I am qualified to teach the use of fire arms, it falls to me in my club to decide that a person is safe to shoot and have a permit. Then their Doctor must give them a certificate to say they are mentally fit to shoot, and renew this certificate every year with the license.
