If your rifle has a USGI solid gas screw you will not be able to mount the grenade launcher. The hole in the screw is smaller than the pin on the launcher. It was made that way on purpose to prevent anyone from launching grenades without a poppet valve type screw. A few years ago someone was making reproduction single slot screws that had a larger hole which could cause problems for someone who did not know the difference.

It was the mid 1980's when the solid lock screws with large holes were first made. They were produced that way so the M5 series of bayonets would fit.
They never thought of the M7 G/L fitting the screw.

Yes Latigo, I read and heeded the warning from Billy Pyle on round firing pins. He's very clear. That's why I said I have it here. I didn't say I shot with it. It's locked up with the rifle but beside it. I SHOOT a half round firing pin. I can put it back to correct in an instant. I knew that would draw fire...
Oh, just probably concerned friends...

Egg On My Face...
Which is not anything unusual, of course!
...the early gas cylinder lock screw is concerned, the pin on the grenade launcher was purposely made too large to fit the hole in the early lock screw, so the launcher could not be mounted until the poppet type screw was installed.
Um... er... yep! Dunno where I came up with what I did, but I did know that the semicircular "relief cut" was to alleviate the stress resulting from a 90-degree machine cut. and had nothing to do with greande launching.
(I shoulda read Bill Ricca's "Myths" page, which Badger has stickied on this forum.)
