No 5 Mark 1 Serial Numbers
I have a No5 Mk1 with the followind markings - The receiver is marked No5MK1(F) 4/47 and is serial numbered AA35. The bolt and forend are both numbered AA35. The magazine is numbered AA1615.
I don't seem to see these numbers listed in any of the forums on serial numbers. Can anyone shed some light on this.

S.A.I.S No4 shows serial Nos AA1 to AA25 your rifle proves that there was at least 10 more made. You may have the last No5 made, the magazine indicates there are more.

No.5 Serial No.
Hi,
there is nothing mysterious about the serial number, by that date Fazakerley had gone through the entire alphabet so they just started again by prefixing with another letter -AA, AB, AC (I've never seen an AD though but maybe some are out there) Your magazine is mismatched but appears to belong to another later No.5. The BSA No.5s had a slightly different serial numbering system. If you check your Skennerton
or Stratton all will be revealed.
All the best,
Curly

ROF(F) The Fazakerley contract for 150K rifles was increased by 19,807 1945/46. To this total of 169,807 rifles (last serial no S8823) must be added an indeterminate quantity in 1947 carrying on in the serial Nos allocation for Fazakerly. FE1 to FE1000 the first batch then A1to Z9999 not useing I or J, AA1 to AA25. 241k allocation not all used.
Question does anyone have a rifle serial No between S8823 and Z9999.
Rondogs serial No is indicating a manufacture of 280k a further 110K after ww11

I don't seen anything odd about that serial number for an ROF(F) April 1947 No.5. My ROF(F) No5 is also April 1947 with serial number AA23XX
BTW rodog, you have your sling fittings the wrong way round.

I have a "Y" something, I'm pretty sure. I'll have to go look, if I can remember. Still working stupid long hours- it leads to short attention span outside of work-
ETA Sent Bindi2 the pertinent info via PM.

Really? So the short ends go on the inside, with the hooks facing outwards? Thanks! I'll have to change that. Don't want the other kids laughing at me!
And mine doesn't say "ROF(F)", just "F", as you can see. What's the difference?
