First off: clip latch spring. Try stretching the current spring and reinstall; if the problem goes away, replace the spring with a new one. (That's not a bad idea in any case.) Fulton Armory sells a good spring.
Addendum: see the thread preceding this one, entitled "Clip latch/clip latch spring question..."

You need to replace this to fix your problem:

The nub (on the right of the picture) is worn down.

Premature Clip Ejection
Win...
True, the bullet guide may need replacing, but the latch spring is the first thing to check. (Actually, it's the notches in the clips themselves, but let that go.) Since Mike D specified a CAI receiver, I'd not want to put a lot of money into it.
You can check here... [[[ http://myplace.frontier.com/~vzewegj7/id22.html ]]] ...just scroll down; there's a list of things that could. be causing the problem.
Um... I had the very same problem with an HRA rifle. New bullet guide: nuttin'; new clip latch spring: problem solved.

So I finally figured it out. The clip latch was not holding back the clip enough. The receiver was not allowing the lobe of the latch, that makes contact with the clip, to hold back the clip enough, if that makes sense. I removed some metal from the receiver and the back of the latch, allowing the latch to reach a little further in the receiver.
Here's a couple photos to help with my lack of M1
terminology - The first photo is my SA 1.6 mil receiver. The one arrow points to the rounded milling of the top of the clip latch relief cut. The CAI's (second photo) is flat, which does not allow the latch to rotate as far when it is pressed. This does not seem to affect function. The other arrow points to the hole milled in the receiver. On the SA receiver the hole is larger in diameter, which helps allow the latch to reach farther in. The arrow that points to the hole in the CAI receiver shows the area where I removed a little metal. I also removed a little metal on the latch where it makes contact there.
I shot three clips, the last one nearly as fast as I could pull the trigger, without a hitch. Pre-mature ejection solved!
