How do you know it's a K98k? - From the sales tag?
Let's get serious. Who would bother to cut down a K98k?
It might just be something rarer - like a G33/40.
Most dealers wouldn't know the difference.

We need to see pictures. One overall, one of the receiver ring, and one of the left side of the receiver.

His post said - Model - 1938 (42) K98 was on the tag. That means it is a 42 code 1938 K98k.
If it is all original military the store made a mistook on the tag for bbl lengt.
Even if it's an RC he did Very Good!!!
