Look closely at your pic of the barrel band. See any saw marks on the front edge of the outer ring? Sorry, but it looks like a cut-down to me. But I could be wrong. I often am........

    I'm impressed Phil !
A good practice to always lightly grease the barrel before sliding a band forward to avoid any scratches.

    Cheers,
    Charlie

    Guys,
Lets put Greystone45's carbine purchase on the back burner for now.....
The original winner was MATTYMATTEL who was given a 30 day money back guarantee. In fact the seller CHRISSILER went over and above that by stating..... " GB specifies that the maximum right to return is 30 days. However, I am extending that indefinitely; there is NO time limit on my auctions ..... and unconditionally guarantee this is original as described and pictured. The bottom line is that if you don’t like the item for any reason, just return it to me in the same condition and I will refund your purchase price. You risk only your shipping fee. PayPal charges me 3% for the transaction and I feel it is fair to ask you to split the cost with me if you elect to use their service "
    The auction ended on 11-14-10.
When MATTYMATTEL bought the carbine in question he left positive feedback for the seller CHRISSILER on page 2 dated 11-22-10....

Seller CHRISSILER left feedback for MATTYMATTEL on page 1 dated 11-25-10....

More on MATTYMATTEL, Does anyone remember any of the purchases or sales he's made? Look closely, I think you may.....
Mattel sold this Inland 26058 for $1600.00, Anyone recall the issues on this one, to also include the rework on the dovetails?

Exact same carbine as above bought from SAM-T-BOB for $2052.00... and most of us know what S-T-B offers for sale !!
    M1 Carbine - "'42" Inland w/H/W I-Cut Stock : Curios and Relics at GunBroker.com

MATTYMATTEL's feedback just on GB shows 2 purchases fron S-T-B and 2 from ole DIPP.

Just my opinion, but if the carbine bought by Greystone45 has any issues, I doubt very much the seller CHRISSILER was trying to mis-lead anyone. I've researched what I can find about the seller CHRISSILER and can see no sign of any misleadings, especially taking into account his generous return policy. Unless I've missed something. CHRISSLER did say "This rifle was purchased as a walk-in at a gun show. The former owner received the rifle as a gift from his uncle who was the WWII vet. The seller was not willing to give his name......" Maybe now we know why! But you'd have to say this seller sure went on on a limb with his description.

Just to add, I do not know the seller CHRISSILER.

Please Note: At this point is there any reason to chance taking it apart? Seller clearly states; "just return it to me in the same condition" Hopefully Greystone45 received this same return policy offered in the auction. I do believe the flip sight base to be real. The leaf looks to be a cast replacement thus the damaged pin. The barrel band also looks to be real to me, though the swivel doesn't match in color. I also wondered about the Crossed Cannons stamp. Different picture sizes makes for a hard comparison view. But If fake........ It is very close.

Sorry for your troubles Greystone45, especially with this being your first carbine purchase. I hope things workout for the best for you.

    Regards,
    Charlie-painter777

    Charlie,
I am thinking we discussed this rear sight a while back also. I pm'd one of the guy's here last night about the same things you just stated above. Could this be a shill bidder name for one of these sellers? (mattymatel) Sam-T-Bob says he's a very knowedgable buyer. I have been noticing the same things you have on him

Chris is a very honest person, his reputation is flawless. I'm not sure what to think of the Carbine, I would like to talk to the person Chris got it from. Chris did say the buyer offered $1500 for the barrel and a few other pieces but was asked to return the gun exactly as received.

With multiple people bidding high amounts, I figured this was a very safe purchase, could the others bidders have been fooled too? thanks

I certainly appreciate all the help with the Carbine.

Where would I be able to find an unmolested original in Near Mint shape? how much should I expect to pay for one like this?

I feel like I cannot trust gun broker.com now and should buy from somebody directly that knows exactly what they have. Thanks
