Interesting. At the first tent there is a Garand
at the second man's side of the tent but he has a pistol belt, not a cartridge belt, and what looks to be not the M1910 t-handle shovel but the M1943 entrenching tool. I can see a few more entrenching tools down the line. No shovel or entrenching tool at all for the first man, no weapon at all, that I can see. Thanks.

Could be shaving cream, maybe tooth powder. Take a look at this: Equipment Display to the right of the shaving brush is tooth powder.
