my hornady load book list several powders for the 30 carbine. I am not familure with most.
I am looking for the cleanest powder
I shot the Remington UMC green box fodder and its filthy.
I will be plinking with hornady 110 grain FMJ RN

In .30 carbine loads W296 and H110 have always been top performers for me. Not sure what you mean by ''filthy'' but i don't think you'll find any ammo or powder that leaves the gun looking like it was just cleaned.

I used 4227 IMR for some time with good results. It doesn't run through powder meters as well as some but I used a lot of it...

I was using 2400 for over 20 years since that was one of the initial powders used during WWII. However, I am a recent convert to W296/H110. Cleaner burning, hotter velocity and measures alot more consistent.
Now I got to figure out what to so with almost 600 rounds loaded up with 2400. Heck, guess I will have to just go shoot it so I can get my brass out of it. Man, I hate starting all over!!

I use H-110 and when it was scarce, bought some W-296. They used to be slightly different, but now are believed to be identical. The starting loads didn't work very well in my carbines, and I ended up using loads near what the newer books state to be maximum. From what I've read, most people use the standard small rifle primers, but my best references recommend magnum small rifle primers with both these powders. I use only the harder military spec. primers for safety reasons. I haven't made up my mind whether I like the copper plated bullets yet, but when I do load those I use about 3/10 of a grain less powder. - Bob

When I shoot the PMC ammo out of my carbine it reminds me of my black powder rifle,,,, FN dirty... Same with my Garand I tried 4895 and it seemed dirty, smokey, blackend cases, long time to clean barrel ect ect. Switched to varget, now I have only sand on my empty cases and barrel wipes clean in a jiffy.
I am going to order a pound of a few choices
