It's called an oxymoron I beleive. Or a natural redundency. We all have momentary lapses of common sense at times so please allow Mr. Chadwick his brief moment of delusionment. Imagine a politician that actually does the will of the people.

Grabbing my loaded Fowler's, which I keep within arm's reach in case I feel grammatically threatened, I see that an oxymoron is, in fact "a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction" - peace-loving terrorists, cheerful pessimists and the like. If I continue, it will definitely turn political and arouse the moderators, so I shall desist and leave you to invent your own.

If you've got an old Enfield receiver/body, one good thing to do with is is to ask someone with a slitting saw (a band saw is a but un pro for this.....) is they'll slit the body vertically in half, front to back. It's suprising what you can learn about the production engineering and mechanical functioning of it when you can actually peer inside. From the mechanical engineering point of view, I used to teach physics and am a firm believer in the 'one picture describes a thousand words' phrase. I used to encourage students to not hesitate to describe something in sketch form at exam times.

But I digress. When I get a few minutes I'll cut one apart myself. Even with the draconian laws of the UK nobody could ever argue that it was a 'firearm as defined' again
