One thing I will say about Eddy besides him being a great guy is if he says it is good then you can bet money that it is good! I have bought a number of items from him over the years and never once been anything but happy.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. I need to remove the front sight to send the type 2 band to PBI's friend for swivel installation. PBI has generously offered me his removal tool to use. I am still hesitate to try this. Anyone in the Upstate SC (Greenville) area done this before and willing to help. I notice one of the CC officers is from Rock Hill SC.

I would suggest not messing with the front sight. Once you start messing with them, they tend to not look right ever again. The swivel missing is not a big deal, disturbing the original staking on the front sight pin is a big deal, as well as the potential of buggering up the front sight and barrel band. Try taking a dremel tool to cut a swivel out of a type 3 band(which arent worth more than $10 anyway), then make a relief cut in the swivel and try to insert it into your band. Its worked for me. Not as sturdy, but I hope you didnt buy an original winnie to acutally carry around with a sling.

BTW, nice carbine, thanks for showing the pics!

Decided not disturb the front sight or the type 2 band. Made a small cut to the extra swivel Eddy sent and installed the swivel and sling. Looks great. Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum ! I'm glad you didn't mess with it ! Here's my #5720096, another transitional WRA. Posted pics so you can compare the Type 2 Band. You're obviously gonna know what a cut off Type 3 looks like, however a further clue on detecting frauds on bands is to compare the shape, place, and nature of the welding spots against known correct ones. Thanks for your input. Mike.
