UK Taurus conversion.

Just before I begin for those around the world you may know of our handgun ban, but there are a few exception to this, the most common ones are Blackpowder pistols ( Muzzle loaders) and Long barrel revolvers which are a revolver with a 12" barrel and a wrist brace which makes it 24" or over.

After blowing the dust off my Ruger old Army BP revolver a few weeks back it brought a big grin back to the face, and out of interest I was looking on Guntrader when I noticed a Westlake Taurus conversion.

This is a taurus LBR that has been converted by a UK Gunsmith Alan Westlake, it has had the barrel shortened, the brace removed and has had a new cylinder fitted (also altered on the cradle so it cant use the original cylinder) the new cylinder has been made to allow the revolver to be classed as muzzle loader with the cylinder made to allow for shotgun primers to use as the precussin caps and the cylinder is proofed for Nitro powder.

Thought I,d give it a go as it was advertised at a resonable price, its very nice bit of kit and nice to shoot, loading is quite quick using a loading stand, 3 grains of Herco powder, Hollow base wad cutter and cci shogun primers.

The best thing is its nitro powder and doesnt require the usual cleaning of a BP, is a double action revolver, accurate and you can still see the target after use and as it runs on nitro you dont get the usual glare from others as you do using BP.

Neat . I love it when someone can get around stupid laws made by idiots with the IQ and superstitions of twelfth century peons. Do you have to remove the cylinder to reload ? I there a separate press set up to seat the bullets do to the pistol's lack of a rammer ? The old army is a tough gun , I wonder if a conversion cylinder could be done on it ? Spare pre-loaded cylinders for rapid reloads ala Clint Eastwood ? Love the possibilites.

The guy who did the conversion does conversions etc for the Ruger old army and other BP muzzle loading revolvers, was going to make one for my own Ruger old army and also a spare cylinder for the Taurus.

(The cylinder is removed for reloading, a reloading stand comes as part of the conversion)

Thats not as easy as it sounds because they have to be on your licence, so you need to apply for a slot for a spare cylinder, and some Forces would not allow a spare cylinder until recently, as there are now more comps etc that are based on BP revolvers and require a spare cylinder etc to compete.

And remember , over here in the states , a 12 inch bbl revolver with a stock to make it 24 inches would send you away for a loooooong time . Unless of course you bribe them ... I mean purchase a $200 tax stamp.
