No.4Mk1(T) and L96 Accuracy International (Guns and Ammo Review)

With the recent interest in the L96A1, was curious--what is/was the "approved" ammunition for it? Availability?

The aussie ammo is made by lapua, 168 gn projie if remember correctly, for the 338 they use ropur.

and all the ballistic data , stuff like elevation changes, adjustments for wind, temperature, humidity, all the software for accurate adjustments is done on the iphone or PDA which they carry now.

Re the L115 .338 ammo Trooper........... Can you re-check the manufacturer? I ask as ours is from Lapua and they're the sole suppliers due to some IPRights/patent on the ammo. Quite how someone can patent an ammo type - .338 in this case - is a mystery to me but that's the story our end.
Mind you, the .338 L115 is a gentle giant of a beast. I let my son (Robert, age 20) shoot one a couple of weeks ago but it's not as much fun watching him shoot a .338 as he's 6'4". It was more fun when he was a little 14 year old shortarxe shooting a .50" Barratt. That made him jump a bit but he got used to it

I may be off the spelling correctly but it is definately something similar. I might add that the guys using this ammo are not snipers from a battalion, but if you know what the winged dagger is then thats them. But i might have got the wrong end of the stick by that i mean they use a blazer 3 tac in 338 not an AI, although they probably have them among lots of other thingys. So i apologise for maybe giving wrong info.

It was the norm until a few years ago Bindi but things are certainly tightening up now and it's difficult to get 'others' to turn a blind eye if you take your son on the ranges and give them a few treats. Even though it's one-to one and control or range discipline between dad and son is doubly tight/strict it's virtually a thing of the past now. When I was running the ranges, if a dad brought his son (they used to bring them to do little jobs such as tea makers, rations distributors, errand boys between the butts and firing point, flag orderlies etc etc........) I'd encourage him to let him/them have a shoot when the butts were clear etc. Not any more........, mores the pity!

Dear Sirs, this is my second post in this forum.
I am sorry for interrupting the current conversation but I have two questions regarding L96A1.

1. Looking at Marty's pictures in #24, I realized the number stamped on the right side of the receiver is the same as the L96A1 folder sold at GunsAmerica BRITISH L96A1 7.62 NATO Tactical/Sniper Rifles for sale, gun classifieds or gun auction from Kelly Kyle. Buy or bid on this BRITISH L96A1 7.62 NATO in the category Tactical/Sniper Rifles on GunsAmerica.

When I saw the folder pic in the past, I thought this was a serial number. However knowing that the same characters on the different two rifles, it is not. Is it a model name or code, what do you think?

2. I am thinking to build a L96A1 lookalike using AI single shot target rifle. I am going to paint it with DuraCoat but there are tons of color selections.
Could you proud owners of the REAL L96A1 tell me which color is the closest one in DuraCoat green lineups?
I am guessing one of 2-Woodland Green, 9-AUG Green, 17-Sniper Green, and 123-Sako Green.

The other 338 ammo is RUAG, its Swiss, I jokingly call it Swiss miss but its really good ammo.

Accurifle, you can easily build an L96 lookalike based on an AI single shot target rifle. But before you do, I'd suggest that you contact XL39E1 on this site as he has done one and fitted the magazine. Someone in the US will be able to identify the correct AI colour from their L96's

First off, I have learned to be slightly skeptical of "color matching" due to variations in the appearance (visual variations in how we perceive colors), monitor settings, lighting, and then the actual item (aging, and the "green" varies by which surface we look at). So, taking my best stab at your request, using the receiver as the basis for comparison:
2/Woodland--not enough green
9/AUG--too much olive drab
17/Sniper--too dark
123/Sako--too dark
87/FN--best match
