Which bayonets for my M1 Garand rifles

Hi all,
I bought a M51A 7" blade bayonet with M8 scabbard for my Springfield Armory M1 Garand of 1954.
Do you think that the bayonet model is correct for my Garand age ?

I also have a Springfield Armory M1 Garand of June 1944 (D-Day)
Which exact model of bayonet and scabbard should I get for this rifle ?
Is the M1 10" blade bayonet correct or should I get a M1942 16" blade one or a M1942 (M1E1) cutted to 10" blade instead ?

Personally I think you need all of them anyway. Just for examples of what they are. The 1954 would use the M5 blade. The 1944 could have either the 1905E5 or the M1 blade as both would be on issue depending on the unit or area. One unit would get issued with one type, and then when those ran out the next unit gets the next type.

For my 1954 Garand I already bought a M5A1 bayo and I am waiting for the scabbard M8 coming from USA.
Unfortunatly I am in Italy and I must be happy with bayos I can find locally since according our laws I can't buy them abroad.

As for my 1944 Garand I found this bayo at a reasonable price.

It seems a M1942 being cut to 10" with U.F.H. + U.O.S + 1942 printed over.
I guess it should come with a M3 cut scabbard or with an M7 one.
I will search also for a M1.

That example will suffice because it has all the features. 1942 date, modified for the new M1. Remarked accordingly. An M3 scabbard would be nice...

I dont' know yet if this bayo has a M3 modified or a M7 scabbard.
Will check in 2 weeks time when the dealer will come here to show me the item before selling.
It's price is 120 € , about $150, I know it is expensive if compared to prices in USA, but I am in Italy and must be happy with that.

This bayonet would also work for your 1954 rifle. The USMC was still using any 10" bayonet in 1954. It was in 1955 or 1956 that they switched to the M5 type. Of course, your rifle would have spent most of its active service period with the M5A1 so that is the one I would go with. As Jim said. the 10" pictured will work fine with a 1944 M1 rifle.

My father in law was a company armorer in Europe in 1953-54 in the 5th Divison. They had a mixed lot of Garands, some new, some old. Most of the bayonets he had in his arms room were WWII cut down 1905s. So, as late as when your Garand was made the older bayonets were still in use. I wound up with both a 1905 and a M5 for my Garand.

I have another question about M1 Garand, please.

As You can see from photos here M1 Garand bolt
my 1954 M1 Garand has a perfect stock which really seems new, no Department of Defense Acceptance Stamp (Eagle with 3 stars) .50"x.50" stamp and no 'P' proof mark on its pistol grip.
Anyway, browsing some American forums, I saw many of about same age M1 Garand which had almost same new stock. The same thing in some German auction web.sites (my M1 Garand comes from Germany).

Do you think stock has been replaced ?
Or maybe did it came out of factory or arsenal that way ?
