1911 markings??
The more Ive been reading the more I discover. This 1911A1 RR/Colt 1943 on loan is a mixed what I believe could be a arsenal rework at one time. The book talks about arsenal identification/inspection marks and also the lack of. AA RIA SA and others etc... Do these marks qualify as others and what others could they be or what else can they be?
top mark is the letter O or the number zero and the lower mark is what looks like either a open 6 or the letter G. your thoughts please.

The OG is for Ogden Arsenal, and are normally stamped one letter at the time.

So at one time this was rebuilt at an arsenal? I don't know why I saw these and ignored them.
I always claim to have a reading comprehension problem. Could I google Ogden arsenal and get more info on their program or is that a waist of time? And I'll always wait if more info happens along here. Thanks again, dave

It is not necessarily a rebuild. It is not uncommon to find 1911/1911A1 pistols with original finish, but wearing an arsenal mark. The pistol as a whole would have to be considered.
I have never pursued it, but I doubt that you will find any detailed information on Ogden's rebuild program.

Thanks again JP. I got real busy after I posted so I haven't had a chance to check Ogden. I'll check but won't get my hopes up. Just another exercise.
I have gone on their site and posted a question about the 1911A1. I didn't see anything on pistols but if they don't know maybe the know where to look.
Their site did have lots of info on inspection marks and cartouches theirs and many others. Might be worth a print out.
