Type II. It looks real to me.

I vote type II... but I have to qualify that with the statement that I voted the same (different band) on another forum where the owner 'fessed up that it had been modified on his home milling machine from a type III. A drop of something out of a can of something covered up the fresh mill cuts and it was good to go.
That's what is taking the fun out of this.......

Thanks. This barrel band is on a Winchester barrel. I was thinking it might be real because the piece that wraps around the barrel is recessed from the outer portion. I suppose you could do that with a milling machine if you really wanted to.

That was the point the fellow on the other forum was trying to make. The recess is what he was showing off. He was just demonstrating that it could be done on a larger scale once a humper set up his machinery to do it. Hopefully the humpers are too lazy to fool with it.
I'd still bet that yours is good.

There are some other characteristics that say real type 2. I won't discuss them on the forum because the humpers don't need to know, but it certainly appears to be real.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

BobK,
Not all Type II bands have the inner band recessed.
IMO yours looks to be a real Type II from what I can see in your picture.
With that picture, I can't be sure if that's a original band for a WRA carbine.
IIRC, Most T2 bands found on WRA's have a different location of the spot welds on either side of the screw hole, located on the lower left lug (sling swivel side).
I believe they are lower and possibly closer to the outer edge than the one pictured, but not positive.
Would have to look back thru some notes and CC Newsletters.
Also not sure if WRA used just one type of Type II band (or bands from a few suppliers). Another possibility (out of many scenarios) This could be a barrel WRA sent off to another maker like QHMC ( Type II bands were found unmarked on Qhmc late 4,7 mil) without a band being installed.
Any of this making sense?
I'm trying but tired and a bit late here.
