Late Inland trigger housings
Regarding the Inland logo stamped on the right side of their trigger housings, would there have been any housings used after September of 1944 with the Inland logo stamped horizontally? According to War Baby!, Inland changed from stamping the logo horizontally to vertically after early 1944 and did so until the M2 housing came into common use. Is this a definite rule or is there evidence of both types in use through the end of '44? Thanks in advance
Charlie

My 4.927 of about 2 or 3/44 (1/44 barrel) has the horiz. logo, which I think is orig., but since it is a rebuild I can't be sure.

Thanks for your response, Inland44. Is yours a type V or VI housing? Also, does your housing have the oil hole behind the mag release on the left side? I'm wondering if only the vertical logo stamped type V housing would be original to a 6.3 mil Inland, or whether the horizontal stamped V housing could be original as well.

Charlie, I have a 5.41 mil. Inland with 8/44 barrel. I think it was made late summer or fall '44. The trigger housing (believe it's original) is a Type 3 and the "Inland" logo is vertical. - Bob

Charlie,
I've been told Inland went from horizontal then later, on the Type III housings changed it to being vertically stamped.
I'm not sure if the change over date for the different stamping has been nailed down.
Another guess would be they started stamping vertical very late on these (T3) housings, getting ready for the TypeV housings.
I have what appears to be a original (minus swapped out stock) Inland 5,061,238 with a barrel date of 3-44. Type 3 housing is stamped vertically.
I try very hard not to use the phrase: definite rule on anything carbine related. But it would seem very possible both Type III housings would be found mixed in use until the change over to the Type V was in full gear.
In fact right now I'm looking for similiar information for the proper housing for a Inland 5,219,465, that seems to be correct barrel 5-44, Type2 // band, N frt sight but came with a complete WRA housing.
I think it would call for the Inland Type3 verticle logo also.
I like trading, so I'll try trading 1 of 2 T3 Q-nl housings I have.
Charlie,
Can you tell us the serial range your looking at? To better understand what type housing you may need.
I'd venture a guess that if your in Inlands first 6 mil block, I'd think a Type V would be correctly found in a original, but by no means can I be positive. ChrisA would be your answer man.
If I can get the time over the next few days, I'll look over the CC newsletters I have.

Thanks for weighing, Charlie. It's a 6.3 mil Inland. I've got to get off my butt and buy the back newsletters so I can have the fun of doing the research but an opportunity just arose so I'm looking for the Quick (hint, hint) answer! I once owned an original 3.058xxx Inland and it had a type III housing with vertical logo and barrel date of 12-43
I forgot to mention the 6.3 has what appears to be a type V housing (horizontal logo) but how would one determine the difference between the V and a type III with the post war oil hole modification? Possibly by virtue of the presence of a horizontal logo rather than the vertical?

T3 vs. T5:
If your lucky enough to still have the original finish on them, a added lube hole on a T3 won't have the parked finish, but still hard to see if so.
Horizontal vs. Vertical:
Right now thats the only way I know to tell. I don't own a T5 to compare, just a extra T6 sitting here, which is a dead give away with the Inland logo upside down and M2 mods.
Wish I could be more help.

A type 5 is correct for your 6.3 Inland and about the only difference between the 3 and the 5 is the oil hole. I don't know if you can tell by the logo being vertical as Inland also used that on the later type 3 housings as well as the type 5 so it looks like it's only the oil hole.

I haven't the foggiest notion what a V or VI is. Mine has the takedown hole on the bottom for removing the safety and mag catch - no oil hole. On a 6.3 I think you're well into the vertical logo.

Inland the type 3, 5 and 6 are basically the same. The type 5 has the oil hole on the left side for lubricating the magazine catch and the safety. The type 6 is the same as the type 5 but it also has all the cuts for the M2 parts.
