I am rapidly getting an inferiourity complex. I cannot leave home without locking my small collection in a safe, well two safes. I love the displays much more enjoyable than digging thru a gun safe.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Thats exactlywhy I intend to have a room I can display some rifles in permanently without compromising security or safety. of course the caveat here isthat I haven't exactly got the wife's approval yet though.

I used white peg board with 1/4" holes and 2" hooks and 4" straights. I can get an avg. of 10 rifles on a 4'X8' sheet.

They can hold a lot of weight. I have a couple sheets that have 3 or 4 belt feds plus several other long guns.

I originally did similar to T bone, except mine were staggered on in one out. It would be a very simple matter to restrain them at the top where they slot in. Note the MLE didn't fit

Here's a rack like was referred to by someone above. It has a metal bar that goes in front of the rifles, then the doors slide in and are padlocked to a tang off the bar... I chucked a few in it for a pic before it went on the wall

It also makes a great backdrop for portrait pics

That is due to your description as a gun room. Try storm room.

Storm room eh? I'll try along those lines ..... Good thinking... "Safety room. It's for the kids" that should do it.

    Wink Thoughts on Storage

Contributors of above posts have some really nice facilities and wonderful collections. In my younger days, I was in the Cdn Army and moved about quite a bit, often living on-base. I was then faced with the decision of reporting every firearm, make, model, serial and the rest to the MPs or taking a more clandestine approach. This was before the long gun registration. Having some youthful misunderstandings with MPs, I decided early on not bother them with extra tasks. I have built false walls between basement pillars and racked rifles horizontally between floor joists. concealed by suspended ceiling tiles. Both methods can be quite inexpensive and effective for concealment, but with access complications. Especially in basements, gear should be stored well off the floor in case of floods, sewage backups and the like. I also run a basement dehumidifier during summer months. Though ignored for periods of time, my rifles collected dust, but not rust. One exception was a Remington Model 8 stored in the basement joists under a plant that my wife overwatered. on a daily basis. Anything of value sitting on a basement floor should be in a plastic bin, not a cardboard box. Concealment is worth consideration.
